What is a chastity belt?

Chastity belts are locking devices (or clothing) that are designed to prevent intercourse and rape. The first known interpreted mention of such devices can be dated back to the 1400's in a book describing military technology in that particular era. In modern times, chastity belts are commonly used by BDSM (bondage and discipline/sadism and masochism) enthusiasts for dominance play as well as preventing masturbation and infidelity. In BDSM play a chastity belt is worn to surrender control over ones sexual behavior.

Female chastity belts have flat band or strip of leather (this is referred to as the shield) that covers the vagina with only a slot for the labia to protrude to allow the wearer to urinate. Some female chastity devices have a perforated cover over this slot to prevent pinching or discomfort. This shield is attached to a harness be means of metal snaps or rivets, and ultimately held on by a belt with locking clasp or buckle.
